This interesting biennial vegetable (living for 2 years) has edible roots, shoots, and leaves. It's a biennial that produces showy blue bell-shaped flowers in its second year. The roots can be harvested in the first fall, or early in the second year, and they taste like a crunchy, mild radish. The young shoots can be eaten like asparagus. The leaves are soft and mild to eat in the first year.

I actually haven't had this plant self seed, despite producing many tiny seeds. Cut back the flowers promptly if you don't want seeding.

Growing Instructions

Seeds are very tiny, start indoors in early spring, pressing seeds into the soil or just barely covering them. Transplant after danger of frost.

Shipping within Canada
