Bloody Dock or Red-Veined Sorrel is a favourite of chefs and foodies. The young leaves are tasty raw or cooked, adding a beautiful pop of colour to salad mixes.
Bloody dock is extensively grown as an ornamental, enjoying average to moist soil, but also tolerating dry conditions quite well. Can be grown beside a pond or water garden. This plant is a true "edimental" (edible ornamental)!
It will self-seed if allowed, but you can avoid this by chopping off the flower heads before seeds form.
Growing Instructions
Growing Instructions
Plant outdoors in pots in early spring to allow for some cold stratification. Alternately, cold and moist stratify in the fridge (eg in a damp paper towel in a ziploc) for 2-4 weeks, then plant in pots. Plant out about 1-2 feet apart after last frost. Divide plant clumps after 3 years or so.
